The Neuro-IFRAH Approach

This self-evident approach is the cornerstone of my treatment method.

Key Features

  • Focus is on restoring normal movement through facilitation

  • Incorporates principles of neuroplasticity

    • Large amounts of repetition

    • Lots of variation in both the movement pattern and the amount of challenge

    • Extensive use of reciprocal inhibition to manage tone and spasticity

  • Restores movement in an organized pattern

  • Includes hundreds of progressions intended to restore all humanly possible movement

  • Bracing is intended to be temporary

  • Considers the whole body throughout the treatment session

There have been many approaches to rehabilitation over the years including Rood, Proprioceptive Neuro Facilitation (PNF), Neuro Developmental Technique (NDT), limb restriction, and more. Each of these has pros and cons but none of them lead to the outcomes in the real world that can be achieved by practitioners who consistently apply and master the methods taught by Waleed Al-Aboudi in his revolutionary Neuro-IFRAH approach.

This approach is characterized by a consistent attention to detail, tool creation and use, large amounts of repetition, constantly increasing challenge, carefully and safely allowing small to medium movement mistakes to aid learning, and extensive hands-on facilitation by the therapist. As with many skills, when it is done well, it appears to flow simply and with little effort.
